Sector 22 RWS gifts helmets to women on Rakhi in collaboration of Chandigarh Traffic Police

 today in the presence of Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP Traffic. During the drive the society gifted helmets to women who were found riding two wheelers without helmets. Also, women, riding two wheelers with helmets on, were presented with roses along with thank-you cards.

Chandigarh Administration has made helmet mandatory for women riding two-wheelers w.e.f. the 6th July, 2018. According to the new rule, only a Sikh (man or woman) wearing turban is exempted from the order. Earlier, women riding two-wheelers were exempted from wearing helmet. “On Raksha Bandhan brothers promise to take care of safety and protection of their sisters and gifting helmets to ladies using two-wheelers is one such step to manifest the bond of such relationship”, said Vinod Vashisht, President of GHRWS-22.

SSP (Traffic) Shashank Anand congratulated GH22RWS for organizing a befitting event on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and encouraged both men and women to protect themselves by never failing to wear helmets. “Wear helmet as crowning glory” implored SSP to young women.

When DSP (Admin) Traffic Jaswinder Singh gifted a helmet to a lady riding two-wheeler, the lady did a return gesture by tying a rakhi on his wrist. DSP and his team motivated both women drivers and riders to always wear helmet for their safety and protection on road.

Bhupinder Singh, Head Constable Traffic was also seen entertaining passersby by singing songs based of women road safety. Traffic Police team from Sector 23 Traffic Park distributed a number of helmet awareness and road safety pamphlets to the crossing vehicle drivers.

Even women of our glorious past like Mai Bhago and Rani Lakshmi Bhai were always seen using headgear while in action, said Vashisht. During the drive a total of 50 helmets and 50 roses along with Thank you Cards were distributed to women driving two wheelers, informed Vashisht. From the society, Jagdish Lal, Rajeev Kumar Bansal, Sushil Malhotra, Sunil Sharma, Rajesh Mehta, Prem Pal Sharma, Amit Katoch and Pankaj Bhugra were also present during the drive.
