NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Surjit Kumar Jayani has directed the health department officials to take emergent precautionary measures to check the outbreak of the dreaded avian influenza, H5N1 in Punjab.
Expressing concern over the confirmed cause of the dying ducks suffering from H5N1 and bird flu in the Sukhna lake Chandigarh, Mr. Jayani said that the teams of Medical officers from Mohali have been deputed to conduct a survey in the adjoining areas of Punjab around Chandigarh especially in Kansal and Naya Gaon . They have been asked to check the habitats especially in those villages touching the boundary of Sukhna Lake areas which are close to Chandigarh.
The Minister has also directed the civil surgeons especially the districts around Chandigarh to be ready with the entire required health infrastructure and create special isolation wards in the government hospitals. The special dedicated teams of doctors have been constituted to check any kind of eventuality of the eruption of bird flu.
The Minister also said that as precautionary measures the poultry products entering Punjab from Chandigarh would be checked at the entry points. He said that Food Analysis Inspectors would conduct surprise inspections in Poultry shops to ensure that there was no fresh supply of poultry products and poultry feed from areas around Chandigarh. He also directed to maintain special surveillance in areas around Poultry farms located in Chandigarh periphery areas.
