NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, a leading Institute providing Hospitality education under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is celebrating WORLD TOURISM WEEK, in the institute premises.
The week started with an Italian Workshop, where Chef Manav Suri from Gusto Kitchen & Kaffe showcased Italian delicacies and Hindi essay writing competition, celebrating Hindi Diwas, marking the opening of the tourism week. Around 34 students participated by writing on the topics “Bhartiya Sanskriti” and “Hindi Bhasha Ka Maan.”
On 23rd September 2015, the Institute organised many competitions which were held on an Inter and Intra College level. Around 200 students participated from various colleges like MCM DAV, Chandigarh Institute of Hotel management, GCG 42, GCG- 11, State Council of Education Research and Training, Home Science College, and many more colleges of the city made the event happening. Ms. Anita Gupta, Lecturer, Govt. College of Arts; Ms. Sarita, Housekeeper, Rajbhawan; Ms. Medha Mehta, Social Worker; Ms. Pandav, Associate from PCA, graced the occasion with their presence as esteemed judges of the competition.
The day started with the commencement of the competitions which were

- Photography with the theme of Incredible India
- Poster Making with the theme of Eco-tourism, Chandigarh – A Smart City Destination and Swaach Bharat Abhiyan – Clean India Campaign
- Rangoli Making with the theme of colours of India
The participating students were marked on the criteria of Relevance with the theme, Colour Schemes, neatness in work and creativity. The following were the winners of the event:

“The participants have captured the photographs with excellence. The vibrant colours of Chandigarh have been depicted in the posters and the beauty of the flowers has been gracefully presented.” Said Ms. Sarita, one of the judges of the event.
An interactive session of cake icing demonstration was showcased by Chef Sucharu Sharma, Faculty of the institute, for the participants and general public.
“Tourism is travel for recreation, leisure, religious, family or business purposes, usually for a limited duration. In a world struggling for peaceful coexistence, tourism can build bridges and contribute to peace. It makes me happy to see the competitive spirit among the participants and I hope to organize such events for the coming years also” Quoted by Mrs. Bharti Tyagi, Principal of A.I.H.M.
Keeping in mind the great old saying “Atithi Devo Bhavah” which literally means ‘The guest is God’ or ‘Guest becomes God. ‘On 27th September, the students of the college will visit “The Chandigarh Railway Station” and overwhelm the passengers by presenting them with a rose bud and wishing them “Happy Tourism Day”.
